MDB (MAIN DISTRIBUTION BOARD)

A Main Distribution Board is an electrical panel that divides the main electrical supply into subsidiary circuits, providing power to various parts of a building. It ensures that electricity is safely and efficiently distributed to different areas, such as lighting, power outlets, and safety systems.

Components of an MDB:

Circuit Breakers: Protect the system from overloads and short circuits

Safety Switches: Isolate parts of the system in case of an emergency.

Surge Protection Devices: Mitigate the risk of power surges caused by lightning or other external factors.

Main Switch: Allows for the complete disconnection of the electrical supply for maintenance.

Residual Current Devices (RCDs): Provide additional protection against electric shock.

Functions of an MDB:

Power Distribution: Distributes electrical power to various parts of the building.

Protection: Safeguards the electrical system from faults and overloads.

Isolation: Allows for safe maintenance by isolating parts of the system.

Monitoring: Provides a central point for monitoring the status of the electrical system.

Applications:

MDBs are commonly used in:

Commercial Buildings: To distribute power to lighting, HVAC systems, and office equipment.

Industrial Facilities: For powering machinery, motors, and other industrial equipment.

Residential Areas: For distributing power to household appliances and lighting.
